Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI) have received over $24,000 in funding to purchase life-changing medical equipment to assist in the prevention and treatment of serious illness, thanks to Kloster Honda and The Honda Foundation.

“The Honda Foundation is delighted to support Hunter Medical Research Institute with fundamental research that has the potential to dramatically improve and give hope to thousands of Australians affected by cancer every year,” said Chairman of The Honda Foundation, Mr. Stephen Collins.

HMRI is a world-class health and medical research institute based in Newcastle that aims to prevent and cure a variety of illnesses through biomedical research. Established in 1998, HMRI is home to over 1,400 clinical and biomedical researchers working across a number of research programs.

The Honda Foundation’s donation will allow HMRI to purchase Bioimpedence Scales that will provide researchers with a suitable method to assist dose adjustment in clinical cancer research studies.

HMRI researcher, Dr. Jenny Martin, said cancer patients throughout the institute will benefit from more precise and personalised medication dosages thanks to the grant from The Honda Foundation.“

We are sincerely grateful as without the Bioimpedence Scales doctors have to estimate the appropriate dosage for patients outside the ‘normal weight’ spectrum which can increase the risk of adverse events and decrease clinical effectiveness.”
